Madison's sixth graders receive some special attention Save Email Print

It was a day of anxiety for both students and parents, as kids returned to school for fall.

New this year in the Madison School District - sixth graders are getting some special attention.

They were the only middle schoolers returning to class today - part of a new program designed to help ease the adjustment from elementary to middle school.

Principal Joe Gothard says, "I think it's great, I think parents right way could feel - who dropped their students off today could - it was a much better atmosphere with just the sixth graders being here, the halls are quiet, we're able to instruct them in a quiet environment, with very few disruptions, and really get them started in a positive way."

High School freshmen attending Madison Schools also experienced a similar setting - to better help them make the transition from middle to high school.
