The University library and historical societies are in the process of selecting materials to send to Google so they can be digitized and loaded onto the Internet.
The University had been trying to digitize it's own materials since 2000, and says working with the Internet giant will save them millions of dollars.
UW Library Director Edward Van Gemert says, "The material that was published in the 19th and early 20th century is falling apart and this is an opportunity for us to preserve that content for future generations. Number two is the access, people today want electronic access, it's convenient."
The UW expects its material will be on Google's book search site within six months.
The material will also be accessible on the University's website.
